Remarks about Canada becoming 51st state must stop: Carney

Carney made remarks during visit with leaders in London

Prime Minister Mark Carney has called out U.S. President Donald Trump for his “disrespectful” remarks about Canada becoming the 51st state.

Speaking from London, where he is visiting several leaders from around Europe, Carney insisted such rhetoric must stop.

The remarks come amid rising tensions and Trump’s threats of economic pressure on Canada.

In the last two days, Carney has met with King Charles, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and French President Emmanuel Macron - noting that the priority for the trip was to strengthen economic and security ties.
