Mako won by-election by nearly 1000 votes
St. Catharines Ward 6 has its new conucillor - and he's ready to get to work.
Marty Mako was elected the newest councillor for the city in a by-election recently, securing nearly 1000 more votes than the next closest candidate.
Mako, who ran for council back in the 2010 municipal election, said running again is something he always had in the back of his mind.
Mako won the seat that was previously held by Carlos Garcia, who passed away late last year.
He says Garcia and him have been close for a long time, as he had even mentioned to him he should run for council again.
Mako, a commander with Niagara EMS during his day job, is someone that's always looking for different ways to be involved - and he says that isn't going to change when he's on council.
“I am excited to welcome Marty Mako to City Council,” Mayor Mat Siscoe said. “His commitment to his community has been clear for as long as I have known him. I know he will serve the residents of Port Dalhousie and the City of St. Catharines with grace and thoughtfulness. Welcome, Marty!”
Mako is scheduled to be sworn in at the next City Council meeting on April 29th.
