Organization helps with financial support among other things
As the financial landscape for many families across Niagara gets more difficult, the Education Foundation of Niagara is continuing to help out as many as possible across the region.
The organization, which was founded in 2007, collects donations that go back to support students in the District School Board of Niagara.
Coordinator Kaitlin Wharton says this support can take on a number of forms.
While a large focus of the organization is on benefits that some families may not be able to afford, EFN also makes a point to make sure students are comfortable in their day to day lives.
Wharton says each year they also raise money to keep kids warm.
The Foundation’s diverse programs support target areas where other funding is not available. One of these, as Wharton points out, is free swimming lessons.
EFN is led by a volunteer board with a staff of one, and primarily runs on the generosity of donors - whether that be individual donations on their website, recurring donations, or at fundraising events like their annual Golf Classic.
Wharton says without others donating, there wouldn't be an EFN.
